If a couple is getting married in Maryland, they’ll need to obtain a state issued license. That marriage license will be issued by the county where the wedding is taking place. The exact rules may vary a bit by county, but are usually pretty similar. The license will be issued by the County Clerk’s Office.

Here in Ocean City, we go through the the Worcester County Clerk in Snow Hill, MD. They are usually open from 8:30 AM – 4 PM. The office is closed on weekends and holidays. Either the bride, groom or both need to be present.

They’ll bring a valid driver’s license or birth certificate, social security # and $35 cash. If it’s not their first marriage, bring a decree of divorce or death certificate.

License may be used as soon as 2 days after approval and is valid for 6 months. They may apply through the mail with a validated non-resident affidavit form accompanied by a certified check or money order.
